The SpikeVest: Maximum Protection with Velcro Convenience

The SpikeVest is designed to slow down or prevent surprise attacks, giving you the critical time needed to react before serious injury occurs. Similar to our original CoyoteVest, the SpikeVest swaps snap buckles for high-strength Velcro for a faster, adjustable fit.

Key Features & Defense

  • Puncture-Resistant Fabric: Constructed with super-tough ballistic material to resist sharp canine teeth.

  • Kevlar® Reinforcement: A large collar reinforced with genuine DuPont™ Kevlar® protects the vulnerable throat area.

  • Full Spike Set Included: Comes with removable chrome spikes for the neck and two spike strips for the back. These hard plastic spikes are safe to handle but sharp enough to deter a predator.

  • High Visibility: Built-in reflective features ensure your dog is seen at night.

  • All-Weather Durability: Water-repellent fabric with zero metal parts—nothing to rust!

Fit & Care

  • Secure Attachment: Two wide Velcro belts keep the vest snug and secure.

  • Leash Ready: Includes a sturdy D-ring for easy leash connection.

  • Easy Cleaning: Hand-wash with mild detergent and air dry in the shade. (Do not use a dryer).

Note on Velcro: To ensure maximum security, keep Velcro clean of hair and dirt. While highly effective, Velcro can wear over time and may be less secure than snap buckles if not properly maintained.

Choosing the Right Size

The back length is your most important measurement.

  1. Measure: From the front shoulder to the start of the tail.

  2. Stand Straight: Ensure your dog is standing (not sitting).

  3. Measure Straight: Hold the ruler/tape in a straight line; do not follow the curve of the dog’s back.

If you are between sizes, we recommend going with the smaller size. And if you're still not sure we can help. Just email us your measurements and a good side-view picture of your dog and we can give our best suggestion.

If your dogs waist or neck is larger than the ranges shown we recommend ordering an Extender for the waist and/or the neck. If your dogs waist is at the lower end or less than the given range we recommend ordering a Stay Strap to prevent the flap from dangling.

Good Protection for my Little One

"I love the new velcro straps. They provide a much better fit and make it easy to put on and take off. But I do wish that the center of the vest was not exposed and I didn't have to pay extra to buy more pieces protect that part of the vest."

Fits well and appears to provide great protection

"The vest is very well constructed. My dog doesn’t love wearing it but doesn’t mind it too much - I suspect she just needs more time to get used to it. The vest does not impede her running or walking. It looks like it offers great protection. I definitely have peace of mind when she’s wearing it (coyote sightings are common where I live and they recently attacked our neighbor’s dog). For reference, my dog is 11. 5Lbs, 12” from neck to base of tail and the size small Spike Vest fit her perfectly."

Worth every penny!!

"This is our 3rd vest purchased! We bought one spike vest and one coyote vest 5 years ago and both vests are still going strong, and Fish (our chihuahua) wears one almost every day all year round. They have kept him safe over the years. For example he was grabbed by a large dog who immediately let go after feeling the spikes. On other occasions, when larger dogs get too rambunctious they are more careful around him. I could go on. For us the beats are like seatbelts. We bought a third one, this time a spike vest because we decide it was time for a new colour!"

great quality and the products work!

"This is my second vest I've bought among the other accessories I've bought from them. I've referred coyotevest. com to many people who have inquired about my dog's "body armor. " I love this company and their products"

vest

"I love the vest I thought it might be too heavy with all the spikes on it, but it’s not. It’s very lightweight. It goes on easy and the spikes looks like they will do the trick."

Carol P. (5/5)

Safer exploration

"I feel so much better having my little pup wearing his vest around our new acreage. I feel more secure with him exploring."

Chris L. (5/5)

Great product

"All 3 of my dogs wear a coyote vest. I live by a large canyon with coyotes and they're around 24/7. It gives me peace of mind for times when I'm not at home."

"I feel better knowing my girls have protection! BIG OWL, and many Big birds in my neighborhood."

Safe Doggies

"We haven't had a coyote run-in, however I feel better when my dogs are out with the their vests on. They do look Bad-A$$"

Aurea M. (5/5)

Still safe!!

"We wore out the first vest I bought. My dog Tank wears it every time she goes outside to keep her safe from hawks. She rolls, hunts, runs through deep weeds and lives her best life, safe from those overhead predators. This vest is sturdy and has never torn. I bought another because the Velcro was wearing out. , not the vest itself. We love it."

Q&A

Help! I can't decide what size to order! My dog is a mix, 33pounds, looks like a small goldendoodle or a large cockapoo. Her back is about 18"-20" long (she wiggles when I measure her). She's fluffy right now but her neck is about 14" or 15" and her waist about 19" or 20 ", but again, she's fluffy and also a few pounds overweight which we hope to remedy soon! I've been afraid to walk her for almost a year now after she was brutally attacked by a large off-leash mastiff/boxer last March. I'm hoping the CoyoteVest will help me to feel safer (and actually be safer!) so we can go on daily walks again. I'm leaning toward the medium sized SpikeVest with added whiskers, but I wonder if the large would be better? I also wonder if the SpikeVest with it's velcro would be best or if I should consider the CoyoteVest with it's buckles? She wears a Thundershirt in size medium and I like the ease of use and snug fit that the velcro provides, but i am open to suggestions. Thanks, Kim
Hi Kim, Thank you for your questions. So sorry to hear about the attack. We would first recommend having more precise measurements for the back length so we can make a recommendation. Here is a quick How To Video Measure Your Dog Video: https://coyotevest.com/pages/howtovideos#MeasureDog. It's ok to be 1-2 inches short as if it's too long and surpasses her back, it may be too big. The main difference between the CoyoteVest and the SpikeVest is the way it attaches. It's really personal preference if you'd like to have adjustable nylon straps with buckles or velcro. Sincerely, CoyoteVest Team
How many ounces do the different size vests weigh?
Thank you for your question. Our vests literally weigh ounces: ranging from the smallest size weighing 3.4 ounces and the largest vest weighing 7.5 ounces. Hopefully this helps.
Dachshunds have large chests. What are the chest measurements? I have one 9 lb and one 13 lb. doxie.
Hi Jeanne, We have tons of Dachshunds wearing our vests. We suggest getting the other measurements such as the back length, neck and waist first. The CoyoteVest has adjustable nylon straps which do help for the longer dogs but have smaller waists. Here is a video on how to measure: https://coyotevest.com/pages/howtovideos#MeasureDog
Is there a cat version?
Hello, yes we have a SpikeVest for Cats. https://coyotevest.com/collections/all/products/feline-spikevest
I have bought 2 of your best. The first had wide Velcro closure. The second had snaps. If I order another can you guarantee Velcro closure?
Hi Linda, We looked up your order and it appears you ordered one CoyoteVest (which has buckles) and one SpikeVest (which has velcro). If you like the velcro, you would need to place an order for the SpikeVest in the future. We would be happy to help assist you with this if you'd like to call 858-935-9069.
