Protect Your Pet From Aerial Threats

Are you worried your small dog might be attacked by a large bird of prey? 1Raptors are a serious threat because from above, small dogs can look like normal prey. 2In the terrifying event of an aerial attack, our patented HawkVest can help protect your dog from serious injury and provide a chance to escape.

HawkVest Key Features:

The HawkVest itself is a formidable first line of defense, designed for maximum protection and comfort.

  • Tough & Puncture-Resistant: Made with super-tough, puncture-resistant ballistic fabric that can resist sharp canine teeth.

  • Reinforced Collar: Features a large collar reinforced with genuine DuPont™ Kevlar® to protect the neck area.

  • Secure & Easy Fit: Wraps around your dog easily and stays snug with two wide Velcro belts.

  • Leash & Safety Ready: Includes a D-ring for connecting your leash and reflective features to make your dog more visible at night.

The Patented HawkShield: An Ingenious Escape Plan

Attached to the back of the vest, the lightweight HawkShield is designed to thwart a raptor's primary weapon it's talons.

  • Stab-Resistant Core: Constructed with three layers of genuine DuPont™ Kevlar® designed to withstand a violent strike from sharp talons.
  • Lightweight Comfort: Attaches seamlessly with Velcro and does not affect your pet's comfort or mobility.

Inspired by Nature: The Autotomy Release System

The HawkShield’s most innovative feature is its emergency release system, inspired by the natural world. If a raptor attacks and attempts to carry your pet away, the HawkShield is engineered to release under the pet's weight. 1The bird flies off with only the shield, giving your pet a precious opportunity to run away. 1This life-saving feature is similar to how a lizard can shed its tail to elude a predator's grasp.

DuPont™ and Kevlar® are trademarks or registered trademarks of E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company.

Optional Accessories

The best outcome is that your dog is never attacked in the first place. To help deter birds of prey from attacking we highly recommend adding a set of CoyoteWhiskers (sold separately) to your HawkVest. Even though the whiskers are flexible and not dangerous, the birds don't know that. It's likely they will hesitate before making violent contact with a bunch of bright sticks pointing straight up.

If a bird is harassing your small dog we recommend adding a set of HawkEyes (sold separately) to your HawkVest. When seen from above these large scary eyes give the impression there is a dangerous predator waiting below. The possibility of becoming prey will often intimidate an aggressive bird and convince them to move on to a safer place.

Choosing a Size:

Measure the length of the back from the shoulder to the start of the tail (do not include the neck) -- make sure the dog is standing up and not sitting. Hold the ruler straight do not bend it down over the dogs behind. We have found that measuring the back length by following the dog's back curvature can add to the length and throw off the sizing. The vests are designed with a straight back and do not have a curve to them. So when measuring, it's important that your dog is standing and you're measuring a straight shot from the front shoulder to the start of the tail without curving the measuring tape.

After measuring if you're still uncertain which size to get, it is usually better to go with the smaller size. We receive more returns/exchanges with the vest being too large rather than too small.

And if you're still not sure we can help. Just email us your measurements and a good side-view picture of your dog and we can give our best suggestion.

Please Note: For the HawkVest we also recommend measuring the neck circumference and waist (not chest) circumference. If your dogs waist or neck is larger than than the ranges shown we recommend ordering an Extender for the waist and/or the neck. If your dogs waist is at the lower end or less than the given range we recommend ordering a Stay Strap to prevent the flap from dangling.

perfect for my little guy!

"I had been on the fence about purchasing for a while, but put it off because of the price tag, even though I know it’s well worth it. But after a hawk swooped on him the other day I figured it was time. i’m very happy with my purchase. It’s been exactly as described, the instructions are clear on putting it together, and while a little stiff at first he’s getting used to the sensation of wearing it and knows to now wait for the vest before going outside. It’s been great having the peace of mind!"

Peace of mind

"After an eagle tried to take my dog it was a huge wake up. The eagle was only a few feet away, luckily a leaf got stuck in my dogs fur and he freaked, backed up & spun around. Throwing off the eagles ability to capture her prey in her claws. My puppy ran away from the leaf stuck to his head & had no idea the eagle was just inches above his back. The eagle was very bold to attack with us my wife & i right there. Here’s an a. i. photo of what we witnessed. Of course he didn’t have his vest during the actual attack. I don’t think a bird or wild animal would even think about it now. I do worry a playful big dog might think he’s a toy to play with but i think the spikes and whiskers will make it a difficult task to actually grab him."

Perfect safety vest!

"Ordered this for our 5lb chihuahua because we have a LOT of hawks around us. We have also seen fox and coyote. He is never outside without us but this certainly helps us feel like we have provided him with an extra layer of protection. He wasn’t a fan at 1st but now he thinks he looks good and we agree!"

Lifesaver!

"Literally a lifesaver for my new Jack Russell pup - and me. Being able to give her the freedom to run around the yard without worrying about the hawks and eagles that fly overhead has saved her life and my sanity. She can run as Jack Russells love to do, which gives her the exercise she needs/loves to do. Being tethered to a leash in our own yard was not the life we had planned for her - but seeing hawks and eagles watching her from above created a serious problem. Research and a call to your Help Center provided us with a wonderful solution. Thank you! And shipping was so fast! So sanity came quickly also."

Good Fit-But he is fussy about it of course!

"Good Fit- Not sure why there are not spikes for the middle strip?"

Great Quality, Too Big

"The Hawk fest is excellent quality and a genius concept. I was so excited to order and receive this product for my 3 pound Chihuahua, however, after taking measurements and deciding to purchase the smallest size, it still was too large for my puppy. I live in an a heavily wooded area with many hawks, crows, predators and would have felt reassured taking my dog outside with his vest on, but for now, I will wait to see how large my puppy grows, hoping that one day the vest will fit properly."

Love feeling secure

"The xxs fits my chihuahua perfectly, and I feel great knowing she’s protected from the unexpected. I picked this up for a trip to rural Tennessee and it’s been great to let my dog hang out without constant babysitting. I also like the extra bell, which has helped me track her down in the brush! I recommend getting a bright color if you live or are spending time in the woods."

Great vest

"My little Trixie is being stalked by 3 hawks. There have been coyote sightings in our area too. I feel a sense of relief knowing she's wearing a Coyote vest that will deter predators from messing with her. She's fearless and with her coyote vest she looks like a toughie. I'm hoping any predator/big dog she comes in contact with will think twice about messing with her!"

Great Customer Service and Peace of mind for my little dog

"I originally purchased a vest from Amazon, that seemed too large for my Toy Poodle, despite following sizing and measurements. I emailed Coyote Vest Customer service with some pictures, and Eric was a great help. Eric suggested a smaller size and that it will protect the same key areas even it may be a little shorter. He also explained the HawkVest combo was less expensive than buying the best and HawkVest attachment separately on Amazon. Win Win! It arrived quickly and even cam with complimentary Coyote whiskers and a bell to attach to the vest to be able to hear where she is. While she is still getting used to the vest, now she can play outside without me having to worry that the hawk that nest near by will swoop down and try and get her."
