The most common way aggressive dogs and coyotes injure or kill is by biting their victim around the neck. That is the best way for one canine to dominate another. The bite is often accompanied by a violent shaking action intended to fatally injure the neck and end the struggle immediately.
Protect against neck bites with a CoyoteCollar™
The CoyoteCollar protects the neck with outrageous 1" battle ready spikes! If an aggressive dog or predator tries to bite this collar it will bite back! When your dog is wearing a CoyoteCollar it becomes much more difficult for anything to forcefully grab them by the neck and kill them with a death shake.
The oldest trick in the book?
In fact spiked collars work so well they've been used to protect dogs for thousands of years. But most of the collars on the market today are more about style and less about function. So we did a lot of research trying to come up with the perfect "everyday" spiked collar that meets the following requirements for small domestic dogs:
Serious Protection
Waterproof
Lightweight
Easy On/Off
Highly adjustable to get a perfect fit
Super comfortable for the dog
Durable and easy to clean
The requirement to be waterproof essentially restricts the choice of material to nylon webbing and the same hard chrome plated plastic spikes we use on the CoyoteVest. The spikes are lightweight and they're not dangerous to handle, but with enough pressure they're sharp enough to hurt.
After much trial and error we found the best way to meet the rest of the requirements is to attach the spikes to nylon webbing using a special type of stiff double sided Velcro. It might sound crazy but with the right materials it actually works very well! The result is an adjustable collar so easy to use and so comfortable and so durable you will use it all the time for years. That's really the only way to ensure your dog will have some protection when an unexpected attack happens.
The CoyoteCollar can also be used with the CoyoteVest or the SpikeVest. It can be used as a throat guard underneath the vest - simply remove spikes until there is just enough to cover the throat while wearing the vest - afterwards you can put the spikes back on for full neck coverage. You can also use it on top of the vest (as shown below) to have additional throat protection and more spikes around the neck. If you want to use it on top of the vest be sure and measure the neck circumference with the vest and then order a size large enough to fit.

Sizing Guide
Our CoyoteCollar comes in three sizes each with enough spikes to cover the maximum size listed in the table below. You can't adjust the collar bigger than the maximum size but you can adjust it smaller by removing spikes and tightening the collar.
To choose a size measure the circumference of your dogs neck and then select the collar that has a maximum size at least as large what you measured. You can always select a size larger than what you need - and then just remove spikes. And if you wish the collar was wider you can always get two collars and put them both on at the same time.

Quality and peace of mind
"This is the best purchase I’ve made for our dog. We lost the first one, so I bought another one. Still the same excellent quality. We use it every day because our previous dog got grabbed by the neck by another dog. Thank you for inventing such an invaluable collar to protect our fur babies."

It didn't work out for me but It's a great vest
"The vest is well made and super cute. But it weighed down my chihuahua and trapped in heat , the company suggested I submerged it in cool water and then put it on , and no I'm not doing that. I think this vest is best for those who don't have their pups on leash next to them and more for hawks and cayotes. My concern was stray dogs . . but if i had to scoop my pup fast , I wasn't able to do it with the vest and all the accessories. . I honestly wanted it work and it kinda hurt having to return it. The company was really really nice and responsive. Now I just wall around with prayer, a stick. Citronella spray and my head going around in circles watching for any lose dog and that is a true bummer ."

Saved my dogs life
"My dog was attacked by three large breed dogs. This collar saved his life. This prevented them from grabbing his neck and shaking him, and gave him a fighting chance. If you’re considering buying this just do it you will regret not buying it more than spending the money on it."

Great collar and sent really quickly!
"Love love love the collar. Looks great and I feel much more confident in the desert with our pup."

Lightweight and sassy!
"Ordered the Coyote Collar in pink. Peggy is a tiny lady (9lbs) and I was so pleased this collar didn't weigh her down. We live in a rural area and our property is meadow lined with woods- primo spot for so many different types of critters that aren't chihuahua friendly! I feel far less anxious walking with her, especially at dusk."

Good
"I got the smallest size and it’s still a little big for my cat. She’s keeps it on thankfully. I didn’t see this option on the website, I wish I would have just bought the spikes because they come off the collar. I have plenty of collars I could have put them on for a better fit."

Q&A
We love our coyote collars!
You're a good fur parent for being proactive in your search for some pet safety gear! We would love to get a photo of your fur baby's sporting their collars! By the way what are their name's & breed? Send any photos over to support@coyotevest.com, and we would love to share them on our social media!
Hi, I’m interested in purchasing a collar for my small-ish (24 pound) schnauzer mix. We were charged & attacked by an off leash dog & we are both lucky to have survived. While I still think about it a lot & carry mace, I still feel like carrying mace simply isn’t enough. My question is: Would this collar provide protection against a large jawed dog/breed such as a pit bull type breed/mix? Either way, thanks! Tami
Hi Tammy, We are so sorry to hear about your fur baby being attacked. Sadly we hear this often, that's why we know how important it is to get our furry friends protected! We would be happy to help you with sizing or to place an order over the phone. Our business hours are M-F from 8 am - 3 pm PST, our number is 858.935.9069. You can always place an order online at CoyoteVest.com, we have sizing charts located under each items description. We hope this information helps and we look forward to helping protect your fur baby! -CoyoteVest Team
What is the size range for each size of the collar? My dog has an 11 inch neck and I'm not sure if the small would be too small or medium would be too big.
Hi, If you go to our website www.coyotevest.com and to the CoyoteCollar. Just scroll down the page and we have a sizing chart. The maximum size for the small is 12" & for the Med 14". The CoyoteCollar is adjustable. To make the collar smaller you take off the spikes and adjust. We have a video showing how. You can make as small as you like but the chart shows the maximum size for each collar. *If you are using the CoyoteCollar with one of our stab-resistant vest we would recommend a larger size as it has to go over the vest. When wearing the collar by itself you would just adjust smaller. We hope this helps & if you need more help please contact us at support@coyotevest.com. Also checkout our How To videos at the top of our home page.
Hello coyote vest team, I have purchased for our rat patrol cats spiked collars in the past and have been very pleased with them. I would like to purchase six more. It is unclear if the size 'small' spiked collars are small enough at ten inches. Please advise, thank you! Louise
Hi Louise, Wonderful to hear that they have worked for you. Here is the sizing chart for the neck circumference for the EveryDaySpikedCollar: Mini 6.5" - 8.75" Extra Small 8.5" - 10.75" Small 11" - 13.25" Medium 12.5 - 15" Large 15.25" - 18.5" CoyoteVest Team
my dog's neck is 14, he's a mn. poodle but big for his size and may still be growing - do I get the medium or large? I usually get large and then shorten them because the mediums can be a bit too snug - can these be shortened? I'm looking at the everyday collar
Yes the Everyday Spiked collar can be shortened as much as you need by simply removing spikes. If you start with a large collar you can make it smaller.
