The purpose of the CoyoteVest is to slow down or prevent a surprise attack and give the owner enough time to intervene before serious injury occurs.

The CoyoteVest covers the back and the neck with a formidable array of shiny spikes that makes it very difficult for a coyote or aggressive dog to bite down. The CoyoteVest also covers your dog with a layer of stab-resistant Kevlar® that can withstand sharp teeth and high pressure. Watch our K9 testing video to see just how tough the CoyoteVest is.

The CoyoteVest includes a full set of removable chrome spikes*. The spikes are made from very hard plastic because metal spikes are too heavy and they rust. The spikes are not dangerous to handle but with enough pressure they are sharp enough to hurt. Velcro makes it easy to remove the spikes whenever necessary to avoid any chance of accidental injury to other animals or people.

The CoyoteVest has been designed to work together with our CoyoteWhiskers and HawkShield accessories which are recommended if you are concerned with predators.

The CoyoteVest has a D-ring at the top of the vest for use with a leash and reflective features that make your dog more visible at night. It's water repellent and there are no metal parts that can rust. It can be hand-washed with a mild detergent.

Even though the CoyoteVest is very difficult to puncture, it's lightweight and comfortable for your dog to wear and easy for you to put on and take off. The adjustable waist belt and adjustable collar can accommodate a variety of dog shapes and sizes. If you prefer, the standard black nylon collar can be replaced with your own collar.

Choosing a Size

Ordering the wrong size vest is frustrating so we want to help you choose the correct size on your first try! It's really easy -- the most important thing is the length of your dog's back. The collar and the waist are very adjustable but if you order a vest that is longer or shorter than the length of your dogs back it will not fit properly.

So all you have to do is measure the length of the back from the base of the neck to the start of the tail -- make sure the dog is standing up and not sitting.

Once you know the length choose the correct size vest from this chart:

Sizing Guide

If your dog's back length falls right on the boundary between two sizes:

  • Choose the smaller size if your dog is thin.
  • Choose the larger size if your dog is heavier or has a thick neck.

*XS, XXS vests have 1 row of collar spikes.
